Jeff Kunz seeks election to Eagle City Council.
Jeff Kunz, an Eagle resident for the past 16 years, is seeking election to the Eagle City Council. He grew up in the Treasure Valley and has extensive family within the area.
Jeff’s campaign slogan is “On target for innovative, responsive and fiscally-responsible city government.” Being “on target” means that he will:
- Responsibly represent Eagle residents;
- Improve city government’s quality of leadership and decision-making;
- Ensure city government is responsive to residents’ and businesses’ needs and gets its decisions and actions right the first time;
- Ensure city government provides important goods and services in an innovative, fiscally-responsible and appropriately-structured manner;
- Retain the high quality of life we enjoy; and
- Encourage businesses to locate in Eagle.
Professionally, Jeff has more than 27 years of practical business and leadership experience, working as a computer scientist, systems engineer, project manager and program manager.
Academically, he holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and three master’s degrees in business administration, computer engineering and systems engineering. His areas of expertise include applied decision analysis, finance, economics and quantitative methods. He also co-taught graduate engineering and management courses for several years.
Civically, he served as co-chairman of the Eagle City Hall Location Task Force. The purpose of the task force was to review, evaluate and provide specific recommendations on various options for the future location of Eagle City Hall. Eagle’s Interim Mayor Jim Reynolds highly praised the task force’s and co-chairmen’s efforts as an example of “American exceptionalism.”
Jeff is a frequent contributor to local media. He was also actively involved in intercollegiate and high school journalism, forensics (debate) and student government.
His personal interests include local politics, investments, world travel and reading.
About the “On Target” Campaign Newsletters
The October 2011 edition of my campaign newsletter, entitled “On Target,” includes an editorial on electoral competition and the unique character of city elections. It also includes two in-depth articles. The first article deals with how well each proposal for the
future location of Eagle City Hall satisfies requirements. (The requirements analysis reveals critical differences between the three proposals in terms of size, location and cost.) The second article describes how, for fiscal year 2011-12, the city’s revenues and property taxes are being affected by the decisions to hold the levy rate constant, not take a 3% budget increase and not re-capture foregone amounts.
The November 2011 edition of the “On Target” newsletter explores ideas on how to improve Eagle’s economic development, competitiveness and quality of life. The first article presents the types of industries and businesses that have the largest representations within Eagle (and why) and researchers’ suggestions on what can be done to improve our economic development and competitiveness. The second article explains how our city can improve residents’ quality of life and promote economic development at the same time.
